Malacca Evening

After our Big Day Out, we had about an hour and a half to work on our dynamic product for Malacca Evening. We could have done something earlier or do everything on the day itself, and for some reason, we chose the latter.

Before the trip, we had decided to present on the topic, Exploring Malacca, but we soon realised we would bore the audience if we merely talked about the same places they had already went. So, we decided to delve one step deeper, into Exploring Malacca: Humans of Malacca. Moreover, we felt that people were just as important, if not more important, than places, since people make up Malacca and the culture of Malacca. Without people, there would be no Malacca.

Our presentation touched on our interviews with three people we stumbled upon while exploring Malacca. They were Mr Francis Goh (an artist), Mr Chan (a shopkeeper) and Ah Tan (a long time employee). Each had their own stories to share and have been in Malacca for a very long time.

We faced several challenges during Malacca Evening. Firstly, since our presentation focused mainly on people interviewed on the day itself, we only had a limited period of time to compile the information and prepare a powerpoint presentation. Secondly, we later realised there was no projector in the room where we had to share our presentation! (We then decided to hold the laptop instead.) We also had to repeat our presentation 7 times as the audience was broken up into smaller groups.

Despite these challenges, we managed to work as a team and pulled through in the end!

Other than the 2 classes who presented a skit in front of the audience as a whole, we could not see what the other classes had put up. However, photos taken made up for it!

101 with a very dramatic performance of Princess Gunung Ledang
106's captivating exhibition, A Journey Through Time
107's hilarious performance, Legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang
108's saliva-inducing exhibition, Malaccan Food
112 with their exhibition, Experiences in Malacca
And finally...
111 (us), with our handheld "projector" and heartfelt presentation, Exploring Malacca: Humans of Malacca
After everyone had viewed each class' presentations, we had to vote for the presentation/skit we had liked the most (by sticking smiley face stickers onto a grid).

After a briefing for Day 2's Big Day Out, the results were announced... It was a close fight, but we won! It was definitely a pleasant surprise for us as we felt that other classes' presentations were much more interesting. The prize was $60 of Popular vouchers, which is apt for a class of many booklovers.

This very memorable, interesting and enriching evening definitely ended off with a joyous occasion - who would have thought our "simple but complex" presentation completed in such a short time could have won?

To other classes: You guys did really great, good job! It's not who won that matters; rather, it's the experience and the learning. :)
